Elizabeth McIver Challenge

Many in our community will recognize Miss McIver as a former teacher, colleague, neighbour, and friend.  The library renovation committee is challenging all of us to match Miss McIver’s generosity in her donations to the library.

Miss McIver taught Grade 3 in Carman Elementary from 1945 to 1974.  What many of you may not know is that when she passed away in 2001, she left a legacy to the Boyne Regional Library of $127,000.  This is a remarkable gift from someone who taught her whole career starting in a one room schoolhouse for less than $500 a year.  As a fitting tribute for her devotion to teaching and to our community, we are hoping to dedicate the children’s section of the future expansion of the library in her honour.

Spread the word of this project to family and friends both near and far to support this endeavor.  While some have moved away, many familiar names from Miss McIver’s class lists still reside in the Carman area.  Challenge your classmates, your siblings, your family and friends to contribute to this special memorial.
